Fava Fest, EdmontonThe Film and Video Arts Society – Alberta (FAVA) is rolling out the red carpet and inviting Edmontonians to join in the celebrations at FAVA FEST: Film and Video Arts Festival, March 19-23rd, 2013.  FAVA FEST is intended to expose the larger community to the artistic work of our membership, stimulate new work, reward past success and just generally make a bigger noise about FAVA.Over the coming months they will be sharing information as it unfolds towards their 2nd Annual FAVA Fest!  Production awards are given out annually to help generate NEW WORK or help to complete works-in-progress.

Helen Folkmann Film Award
awarded to on non-documentary film project
$1000 cash PLUS $1500 FAVA production credit

Lisa Trofimova Video Award
awarded to one non-documentary video project
$1000 cash PLUS $1500 FAVA production credit

Joe Viszmeg Documentary Award
awarded to one documentary film or video project
$1000 cash PLUS $1500 FAVA production credit

FAVA’s Awards of Excellence now has 8 categories:

  • Outstanding Short Narrative Film or Video (under 40 minutes) – $1000
  • Outstanding Short Documentary Film or Video (under 40 minutes) – $1000
  • Outstanding Long Form Narrative Film or Video (over 40 minutes) – $2000
  • Outstanding Long Form Documentary Film or Video (over 40 minutes) – $2000
  • Outstanding Music Video – $1000
  • Outstanding Experimental Film or Video – $1000
  • Outstanding Animated Film or Video – $1000
  • Outstanding Inter-Art Performance or Installation – $1000

The Film and Video Arts Society ­ Alberta (FAVA) is a not for profit artist run media arts co-op. It’s the place you go when you always dreamed of going to film school but never imagined what it would cost. They’re in the heart of downtown Edmonton and offer equipment rentals, workshops, classes, screenings, and special events for the aspiring, garage studio bound, media artists, writers, animators, and film and video enthusiasts who never found their place in other support groups.
