The Words in Motion program promotes literacy and gives new and existing writers an opportunity to showcase their poetry. Poetry submissions are accepted for the municipality’s Words in Motion program until February 8, 2013.Selected poems will be displayed on public transit and cinema screens during National Poetry Month (April), on the municipal website and throughout the region. “Poetry and other arts are major contributors to our vibrant arts and culture in Wood Buffalo,” said Emily Hui, coordinator of Words in Motion. “Our communities are very multicultural and full of talented people. This program gives every resident an opportunity to show their talent and express themselves, in any language, in the form of poetry.” Writers may submit more than one poem. Poems in any language other than English are welcome, as long as an English translation is provided.
Residents are invited to submit poems via the online poetry submission form available at www.woodbuffalo.ab.ca/wordsinmotion.
Participants of the program will be invited to the celebration event on March 26, 2013, at Fort McMurray Public Library to celebrate National Poetry Month.
