The Alberta College of Social Workers (ACSW) acknowledges the Indigenous community as the First Peoples of Alberta. We acknowledge we are guests on Treaty Lands and we further acknowledge the role of social work in the past, the impacts of colonization and the trauma that remains today. The ACSW agrees with the call for new ways of working together. We appreciate the wisdom shared by the ACSW Indigenous Social Work Committee, the Indigenous community of Alberta, and the learnings of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission for a new path forward, a path that celebrates the traditional knowledge and diversity of Indigenous peoples in Alberta.
We invite you to watch this short video describing the ACSW’s journey towards these new ways:
New beginnings for ACSW and Indigenous knowledge.
