Do You Know an Indigenous Youth Who is Making a Difference in Southern Alberta? Nominate them for a SAIYAward

saiya-awardsThe SAIYAwards recognize Indigenous youth in Southern Alberta who demonstrates a strong desire and commitment to achieve their goals. These awards are to encourage confidence and help create Indigenous youth ambassadors for the future. For the first time ever in Southern Alberta these awards will recognize and support indigenous youth 13 – 21 years who are contributing to a solution. Recipients will be given an award as well as $1,000 towards future goals and ideas. They will represent themselves and the SAIYAwards as ambassadors for the year. The SAIYAwards theme will be “The Elders are Watching” and will celebrate Indigenous youth who are making a difference in their communities, developing healthy solutions and growing into successful leaders and ambassadors for Canada. The goal of the SAIYAwards is to recognize the amazing contributions Indigenous youth are making to the community.

You’re Invited to Join a Conversation about the NonProfit Sector’s Role in Climate Change Leadership on October 25

environment The Calgary Chamber of Voluntary Organizations, along with Alberta Ecotrust and The Pembina Institute invite you to join a conversation about the nonprofit sector’s role in climate change leadership. A panel of experts have been assembled to wrestle with questions such as how to make the transition to a lower carbon economy which represents a ‘third industrial revolution’, and why people are talking about the concept of a ‘just transition’. You’ll hear from nonprofit leaders who are making the connection between climate change and issues such as gender and poverty. You will have the opportunity to apply a climate change lens to your work. Panelists include: Dr. Sara Hastings-Simon, Director of the Pembina Institute’s Clean Economy program in Alberta, Krystal Northey, Community Development Coordinator, Women’s Centre of Calgary and Helen Corbett, Executive Director, All One Sky.

Nominations Now Open for the 21st Annual Immigrants of Distinction Awards in Calgary

What about an organization with a record of embracing diversity, or an immigrant or refugee youth whose accomplishments truly make him or her shine? Nominations for the 2017 annual Immigrants of Distinction Awards (IDA) are officially open and will be accepted until 11:59pm on Wednesday, November 30, 2016. For the past 21 years, Immigrant Services Calgary (ISC) has hosted the annual IDA gala to celebrate diversity and the outstanding contributions of immigrants and refugees to Calgary and their community.
