Double the Love: Canadian Supporter to Match Donations Made to Calgary-based Mary’s Meals
Big-hearted Canadians are being offered the chance to have their new, regular donations to Mary’s Meals doubled for the first year of giving, thanks to a very generous supporter. Right now, setting up a regular gift in Canada to global child hunger charity, Mary’s Meals, will help twice as many hungry children in Malawi to find hope in the classroom. This wonderful opportunity has been made possible thanks to a kind Canadian supporter, who has pledged $125,000 to match new, recurring donations.

Alberta Family Histories Society is proud to announce FamilyRoots2017 – Our Canada! Our Stories! September 23rd at the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology. This conference will be relevant to those who have been tracing their family history for decades or are just new to genealogy. Sessions will help participants learn how to organise information, track down their female relatives, delve into the treasures hiding in census records, harness the power of DNA to solve riddles, and ignite children or grandchildren’s interest in their family’s past.

The search is on for Alberta’s outstanding volunteers as nominations open for the 2017 Stars of Alberta Volunteer Awards. Across the province, thousands of volunteers give generously of their time and talents to help make life better for others. We have all in some way benefited from the impact of the work of volunteers in our communities. If you have experienced the fun at a local festival or community event, have taken part in local minor sports, or watched the action at the neighbourhood arena, then your life has been touched by a volunteer.

Do You Know an Indigenous Youth Who is Making a Difference in Southern Alberta? Nominate them for a SAIYAward
The SAIYAwards recognize Indigenous youth in Southern Alberta who demonstrates a strong desire and commitment to achieve their goals. These awards are to encourage confidence and help create Indigenous youth ambassadors for the future. For the first time ever in Southern Alberta these awards will recognize and support indigenous youth 13 – 21 years who are contributing to a solution. Recipients will be given an award as well as $1,000 towards future goals and ideas. They will represent themselves and the SAIYAwards as ambassadors for the year. The SAIYAwards theme will be “The Elders are Watching” and will celebrate Indigenous youth who are making a difference in their communities, developing healthy solutions and growing into successful leaders and ambassadors for Canada. The goal of the SAIYAwards is to recognize the amazing contributions Indigenous youth are making to the community.
