2016 Texas 4000 Team Rolls Into Edmonton As Part Of 70-Day Journey to Alaska for 13th Annual Ride Benefitting Cancer Research

Texas Ride fpr Cancer ResearchOn the longest annual charity bicycle ride in the world, the Texas 4000 team will be rolling through Edmonton on Thursday, July 21st, just 48 days after departing from Austin, Texas on their way to Anchorage, Alaska. While in Edmonton, the 2016 Texas 4000 Team will celebrate and share hope, knowledge and charity with friends and family before continuing on their 70-day journey. 67 riders who have raised over $485,000 for cancer research, treatment and prevention will begin 4,000-mile bicycle journey The 67 undergraduate and graduate students from The University of Texas at Austin will brave the rain, sleet, wind, snow, heat and pedal more than 4,000 miles in the fight against cancer. After 18-months of leadership development training, volunteering, fundraising, and cycling, riders are put to the test throughout their summer ride to Alaska.

Métis Nation of Alberta Celebrates Daniels Case Supreme Court Victory in Edmonton on April 30

Metis Nation of AlbertaOn Thursday, April 14, 2016, the Supreme Court of Canada declared that Metis and Non-Status Indians are “Indians” under Section 91(24) of the Constitution Act, 1867. The Metis Nation of Alberta will host a celebration to acknowledge our recent Supreme Court Victory in the Daniels case. Please join us for a stew and bannock feast, cultural entertainment, information session and dance. There is no cost to attend and all are welcome! The Daniels case victory is significant and will facilitate reconciliation between Parliament and Metis communities from Ontario westward. For many years, Metis communities were left in a “jurisdictional wasteland”, however, the Supreme Court ruling will “guarantee both certainty and accountability” and allow the Metis Nation to hold government” accountable for the inadequate status quo.”
