The King’s University Launches the Leder School of Business on September 25, 2014

Kings-LederThe King’s University launched the Leder School of Business on September 25 with $12 million in donations and pledges by Christian business leaders. The school is named after one of the founding donors, John Leder, president of Edmonton-based Supreme Group that employs more than 1,000 workers at plants across Western Canada and the Pacific Northwest US. It will offer programs and courses in five streams: Global Learning, Entrepreneurship, Sustainability, Accounting, and Distance Learning. A Centre for Applied Learning is being developed with leadership forums, corporate speakers, corporate mentor & in-service learning. Global awareness is integral to the principles of the Leder school of business that will incorporate international internships within its programs. Students will soon have international experience upon graduation, either through internships or by pursuing a term at a partnered University.

Le Regroupement Artistique Francophone de l’Alberta Announces Lineup for Grand Marche des Arts September 24 to 28

RAFALe Regroupement Artistique Francophone de l’Alberta (RAFA) has proudly made public its lineup for the Grand marché des arts (GMA), which will open on September 24 and run until September 28. This first edition of this biannual event will be spectacular. About 100 artists and 65 multidisciplinary activities will be held over a five day period. The program is diversified, and most importantly interactive; it welcomes audience participation. Activities will be held throughout the francophone community of Edmonton. This new RAFA initiative offers important and memorable artistic experiences to the artists and the public, as well as sustaining RAFA’s efforts to broaden the range of markets available to artists of French expression in Alberta.

The King’s University Announces Dean for New Business School

King's University logoThe King’s University has announced that Dr. Elden Wiebe is the dean of its new school of business effective immediately. The school is made possible by initial pledges of $8.5 million by two donors. “The new school of business will offer business programs unique to Western Canada based on current research and best-in-class, leading business practices,” says Dr. Melanie Humphreys, President of The King’s University. “Dr. Wiebe embraces our vision of educating young leaders with a holistic and integrated world view.” Dr. Wiebe earned degrees at Trinity Western University and Regent College, before receiving his doctorate at the University of Alberta in 2005. He is also a graduate of the Arrow Leadership Program, a two-year program that mentors developing leaders in a holistic manner.

YWCA EdmontonOn Thursday night, the 32nd annual Women of Distinction Awards will celebrate a record 55 Edmonton women at Northlands’ Alberta Ballroom. YWCA Edmonton will honour 55 extraordinary women for their leadership abilities and work to better society. These women were nominated by community members who have been inspired by their successes in eight categories: Advocate, Arts & Culture, Volunteer, Educator, Entrepreneur & Businesswoman, Trailblazer, Turning Point and Young Woman of Distinction. YWCA Edmonton’s Board of Directors will also present the Honourable  Lois E Hole Award for Lifetime Achievement to Sister Lucinda Patterson former Executive Director of the Lurana Women’s Shelter and now a member of their Board of Directors.
