The search is on for Alberta’s outstanding volunteers as nominations open for the 2017 Stars of Alberta Volunteer Awards. Across the province, thousands of volunteers give generously of their time and talents to help make life better for others. We have all in some way benefited from the impact of the work of volunteers in our communities. If you have experienced the fun at a local festival or community event, have taken part in local minor sports, or watched the action at the neighbourhood arena, then your life has been touched by a volunteer.
Gaming Funds for Nonprofits – Free Webinar Series | February 11 & March 3
The Alberta Gaming and Liquor Commission (AGLC) is offering a free, two-part webinar series about the use of gaming funds for nonprofits in Alberta. Both webinars feature a live question and answer period. This series was designed to create awareness and provide information about the process and requirements of charitable gaming in Alberta. The webinar series will be facilitated by Volunteer Alberta and feature a speaker from the Gaming Information for Charitable Groups (GAIN) Program. The presentations will cover topics of interest to the non-profit sector as identified in the survey conducted by Volunteer Alberta in May of 2015. Gain a better understanding of how AGLC and gaming proceeds can benefit your organization in the upcoming sessions: the first on February 11 and the second on March 3. Registration is free.
Alberta Women Entrepreneurs (AWE) Announces 2014 Celebration of Achievement Award Finalists
Alberta Women Entrepreneurs (AWE) is honoring female entrepreneurs from across the province. Nominated by their peers these inspirational women are achieving growth and success in business. With 33 nominees for the 2014 award, they collectively represent over $500 million dollars in annual revenues and over 7,700 employees. There are 13 nominees from Calgary, 10 from Edmonton, 2 from Grande Prairie and 1 each from Fort McKay, Drayton Valley, Nisku, Plamondon, Sherwood Park, Spruce Grove, St. Albert and Strathmore.

The Lieutenant Governor of Alberta Arts Awards Foundation, The City of Red Deer and Red Deer College invite you to attend the prestigious Lieutenant Governor of Alberta Distinguished Artist Awards Gala. In June of 2013, Red Deer will have the privilege of hosting the Lieutenant Governor of Alberta Distinguished Artist Awards Gala. This vice-regal event celebrates the premier artists in our province and the importance of the arts to Alberta. The prestigious Lieutenant Governor of Alberta Distinguished Artist Awards will take place on Saturday, June 15. Red Deer College will be the host venue for the event, with the dinner held at the innovative Cenovus Centre, to be followed by performances, the awards gala, and a dessert reception at the beautiful Red Deer College Arts Centre. Pianist Ruston Vuori explores the Theme and Variations form for solo piano through works of Handel, Mozart, Brahms, and Fauré. A native of Red Deer, Ruston Vuori has developed a reputation as a talented and sensitive musician. Under the guidance of Dr. Stéphane Lemelin, Dr. Jacques Després, and Dr. Ted Isenor, Ruston earned his Master of Music and Bachelor of Music degrees with distinction from the University of Alberta, as well as a Performer’s ARCT diploma from the Royal Conservatory of Music. He has been the recipient of numerous prestigious academic awards and has appeared as a performer in solo and chamber music recitals in such cities as Edmonton, Banff, Winnipeg and Ottawa. He has also performed as a soloist with the Red Deer and University of Alberta symphony orchestras on numerous occasions. Ruston currently teaches piano, music theory, and aural skills at Red Deer College. He enjoys composing music in his spare time. Sunday, January 27 at 7:30 p.m. | Studio A | Red Deer College.
