Over the years, the RISE Awards have become a signature event for the Centre with hundreds of attendees each year. The RISE Awards provide the Centre with an opportunity to bring awareness to the importance of integration, settlement and the challenges newcomers face each day. The RISE Awards’ main purpose is to honour the contributions born Canadians, newcomers, and local businesses who are making a difference in our community. The Edmonton Mennonite Centre for Newcomers (EMCN) is an immigrant settlement agency whose focus is the successful and integrative settlement of newcomers to Edmonton. The agency operates in an inclusive environment, with a welcoming atmosphere and a holistic approach to settlement practices.

Author & Motivational Speaker Darci Lang to “Focus on the Positive” in Calgary and Edmonton

Darci-LangThe Supply Chain Management Association of Alberta presents the Regina-based entrepreneur Darci Lang and her philosophy, “Focus on the 90%,” which emphasizes focusing on the positive in our personal and professional lives to increase our odds for success. Every month, from September to May, the SCMA AB holds networking meetings in Calgary and Edmonton, usually with dinner, for its members and others in the supply chain profession. The networking dinner meetings will be a little different this March as the SCMA-AB hopes Darci Lang’s message will inspire all those in attendance. Darci Lang, author of Focus on the 90%, uses one simple tool — a magnifying glass — to reframe how we view our jobs, our co‐workers, our clients and our families. Using this one simple tool, Darci demonstrates how anyone can change their focus and make interactions with others more positive and productive.

It will invite the publie to: 1) See social work as a dynamic and innovated profession that is embracing a diverse and changing world; 2) Seek the profession’s services and encourage family and friends to do the same; and 3) Have a better appreciation of a social worker’s scope of practice. The campaign consists of:  3 podcasts showcasing the stories of three dynamic and innovative social workers embracing diversity in a changing world; 4 posters with powerful images and messages and Social media messages on Facebook and Twitter Using #SocialworkersAB
