Alberta-wide Seniors’ Care Tour to Stop in 11 Cities & Towns

Medicare TourFriends of Medicare will be co-hosting a speaking tour with Public Interest Alberta and the Parkland Institute around Alberta to raise awareness about the state of seniors care in our province. They will highlight concerns regarding the rapidly-rising involvement of private corporations in our seniors’ care system and in our health care system more broadly. In addition, the Parkland Institute will be releasing a new report on elder care and presenting its findings. Speakers on the tour will be Friends of Medicare’s Executive Director, Sandra Azocar, as well as representatives from Public Interest Alberta and the Parkland Institute.

Canada’s Healthiest Showroom Opens in Calgary with Free Educational Seminars

The Riva’s Eco Store showroom — in which visitors can experience first hand the benefits of a clean air environment — demonstrates Pure Air Experts’ commitment to keeping Calgary listed as one of the healthiest cities in Canada.  Jeff McArthur, producer and designer of Canada’s Healthiest Homes, has planned a day full of free educational seminars on effective ways to improve indoor air quality. Seminars begin on Saturday, October 12 at 6:00pm at Riva’s Eco Store at 1237 – 9 Ave SE  Calgary.

HBO Documentary “Apology to Elephants” To Screen at Metro Cinema on October 6

An_Apology_to_ElephantsAs part of their Free Lucy Campaign, the Edmonton-based Voices for Animals Society will present the HBO documentary special An Apology to Elephants, narrated and produced by Emmy Award winner Lily Tomlin. They will also be showing a brief segment of the CBC fifth estate documentary The Elephant in the Room, a documentary that focuses attention on Lucy, the lone elephant at Edmonton’s Valley Zoo. The Elephant in the Room also outlines the reasons the zoo has given for their failure to move her to a sanctuary where she will have the opportunity to thrive and to finally enjoy the company of her own species.

Alberta CEOs To Be Stranded in Wilderness for Third Annual CEO Rescue in the Rockies for STARS

Stars AlbertaThe Shock Trauma Air Rescue Society (STARS) is airlifting four prominent Alberta-based CEOs and dropping them into Kananaskis Country for the third annual CEO Rescue in the Rockies for STARS fundraiser. With no escape route, each CEO must “survive” the wilderness and earn their survival by remaining on the mountain and conquering challenges until they raise a goal of $100,000 each, using only their cell phones to collect donations and raise funds. Once each CEO reaches their personal goal, they will be “rescued” from the site via STARS air ambulance.
