Climate Change and Emissions Management Corporation Names Winners for Round One of $35 Million International Carbon Use Competition

CCEMC AlbertaThe Alberta-based Climate Change and Emissions Management Corporation (CCEMC) has named 24 winners for the first round of the organization’s $35 million international Grand Challenge: Innovative Carbon Uses.  The group was selected from 344 submissions from 37 countries on six continents. The announcement was made at Zero 2014: A Conference for a Low Carbon Future. “While efforts to mitigate greenhouse gas emissions around the world are making progress we still need to pursue other strategies that can reduce emissions as global demand for fossil fuels grows,” said CCEMC Chair Eric Newell. “We applaud the leaders behind these projects who are taking action through developing new carbon utilization technologies.”

CEASE to Honor Exceptional Men at their 9th Annual Men of Honour Awards in Edmonton on May 2, 2014

The Awards honour Edmonton men who respect the integrity and humanity of adults and children and who act with compassion to improve the well-being of vulnerable people in our community.  The Honorees are:  Jay Freeman (Executive Director, Edmonton Homeless Commission), Dan Gluglosh (E4C mental health housing worker) ,  Mark Huyser-Weiringa (Alberta Justice Crown Prosecutor), Dan Jones (EPS Acting Inspector), Dave Kabyn (EPS Constable), Joseph Luri (Sudanese community leader), Ali Mahdi (Somalian Community leader),  Bob Marvin (NorQuest College Instructor), Pat Power (Elder Abuse prevention worker) and Benny “The Jet” Swanson (boxer and advocate for Aboriginal youth). These men were nominated by their communities and chosen by a Selection Committee of men.

CBC Television’s upcoming episode of Doc Zone, “Angry Kids, Stressed Out Parents”, airing March 27, 2014 at 9 pm (MST), follows groundbreaking programs which identify kids with a high probability of becoming criminals and looks at how early intervention transforms their lives. Two of the programs featured in the documentary, are part of a novel research project funded by The Government of Alberta.
