ECOTOUR WordFest presents Canadian icon David Suzuki and award-winning, bestselling author and economist Jeff Rubin in Calgary on Wednesday, February 27 as part of the Eco Tour. The event will take place at the John Dutton Theatre, Calgary Public Library, at 7pm and will feature Suzuki and Rubin discussing their shared belief that a sustainable future can only be found at the intersection of ecology and economics. Copies of the authors’ books will be sold at the venue and a book signing will follow the event. Words in Motion Invites Poetry Submissions by February 8, 2013 | Fort McMurray

Poetry Bus Fort McMurrayThe Words in Motion program promotes literacy and gives new and existing writers an opportunity to showcase their poetry. Poetry submissions are accepted for the municipality’s Words in Motion program until February 8, 2013.Selected poems will be displayed on public transit and cinema screens during National Poetry Month (April), on the municipal website and throughout the region. “Poetry and other arts are major contributors to our vibrant arts and culture in Wood Buffalo,” said Emily Hui, coordinator of Words in Motion. “Our communities are very multicultural and full of talented people. This program gives every resident an opportunity to show their talent and express themselves, in any language, in the form of poetry.” Writers may submit more than one poem. Poems in any language other than English are welcome, as long as an English translation is provided.

Upcoming Concert to Delight Music Lovers | January 27, 2013 | Red Deer College

pianoPianist Ruston Vuori explores the Theme and Variations form for solo piano through works of Handel, Mozart, Brahms, and Fauré. A native of Red Deer, Ruston Vuori has developed a reputation as a talented and sensitive musician.  Under the guidance of Dr. Stéphane Lemelin, Dr. Jacques Després, and Dr. Ted Isenor, Ruston earned his Master of Music and Bachelor of Music degrees with distinction from the University of Alberta, as well as a Performer’s ARCT diploma from the Royal Conservatory of Music.  He has been the recipient of numerous prestigious academic awards and has appeared as a performer in solo and chamber music recitals in such cities as Edmonton, Banff, Winnipeg and Ottawa.  He has also performed as a soloist with the Red Deer and University of Alberta symphony orchestras on numerous occasions.  Ruston currently teaches piano, music theory, and aural skills at Red Deer College.  He enjoys composing music in his spare time. Sunday, January 27 at 7:30 p.m. | Studio A | Red Deer College. Free admission with a donation to the Food Bank.
