Nominate a Distinguished Artist for a Lieutenant Governor of Alberta Arts Awards

Alberta Arts AwardsNominations are open for the Lieutenant Governor of Alberta Distinguished Artist Awards. Albertans are encouraged to nominate the artist or group of artists who exemplify excellence and have had significant impact on Alberta’s cultural scene. Eligible artists may work in visual, performing, literary, cinematic or other artistic media, including architecture or design. Nominations must be received by February 15, 2013. Adjudicators will choose up to three recipients for a $30,000 award, a handcrafted medal, and the opportunity for a residency at The Banff Centre’s Leighton Artists’ Colony. Recipients will be announced in May and receive this distinction from the awards patron, His Honour, Colonel (Retired) the Honourable Donald S. Ethell, Lieutenant Governor of Alberta at a gala dinner in Red Deer, June 15, 2013. The Lieutenant Governor of Alberta Arts Awards is one of Canada’s most prestigious independent arts awards programs, designed to raise the profile of arts in Alberta. The awards are made possible through a donor-funded endowment.

Charity App Challenge Encourages Local Developers to Support Calgary Charities

Charity-App ChallengeThe Charity App Challenge is an initiative of the Calgary Herald, Digital Alberta and Place2Give. These three organizations came together over the idea of how can they could leverage technology for social good – hack-a-thon style! Mobile is the fastest growing communications and engagement medium and digital philanthropy is an evolving sector. They asked themselves, what could mobile technology do for the 12 Herald Christmas Fund charities to help solve a problem or help reach their goals and objectives? This year the Calgary Herald‘s Christmas Fund decided to champion mobile for its participating charities to help them in their organizational endeavors. Want to get involved? The Hack-a-thon will take place over 48 hours on Saturday, February 2 through Sunday, February 3, 2013 at the Calgary Herald.

SACSC logoThe Society for Safe and Caring Schools & Communities (SACSC) is currently seeking Communications Officer for a one year maternity leave term. Our organization provides research-based programs, resources and workshops that help adults create safe spaces for youth. We focus on bullying prevention, character education and creating a safe and caring culture for schools & communities across Alberta. Reporting to the Executive Director and working closely with the Director of Education, the Communications Officer is responsible for advancing the mission of the Society for Safe and Caring Schools & Communities by managing a diverse communications portfolio which includes resource and program writing, editing and graphic design, media relations, social media management and special event planning.
