New Academic and Cultural Centre Proposed for Downtown Edmonton

Edmonton Downtown Academic & Cultural CentreCity of Edmonton Executive Committee heard today plans for a major downtown development project that would combine four state-of-the-art theatres with a University of Alberta downtown campus, a Galleria, an office tower and other retail and commercial space. Additional development by Qualico is also planned.  Called the Edmonton Downtown Academic and Cultural Centre (E-DACC), the proposed development will be led by a not-for-profit group and a self-sustaining P4: a Philanthropic, Public, Private Partnership. As project leaders, the E-DACC Foundation is raising philanthropic funds, overseeing development of the project and working with City administration and others to further define the project, community benefits, financing, sustainability and other details. Alberta Emerald Foundation Invites Award Nominations Until February 28, 2013

Emerald AwardsThe Emerald Awards recognize and reward the excellent environmental initiatives undertaken each year by youth, educators, corporations, individuals, not-for-profit associations, community groups and governments. Nominations for the 22nd Annual Emerald Awards are now open until 12noon on Thursday, February 28, 2013.  Once nominations close at the end of February each year, a panel of knowledgeable judges, with cross-sectoral experience, carry out an independent evaluation  based on criteria outlined in the nominations package.  Each judge evaluates every nomination and the panel meets for final deliberations in April.
